Market Day

Today started a bit later that we had intended. Basically, I overslept...not for the first time, and certainly not for the last...

Our goal today was to reach the big market in town, where we each had to buy a few supplies. Miguel needed a backpack, a flashlight and a new notebook (to replace the one he bought yesterday but lost). I had a longer list. The Internet in my room is very week, so I want an external WiFi antenna. I noticed last night when taking a shower that there's nowhere in the bathroom to hang clothes. So, I want some hooks to hang on the door. The coffee situation in our new house could be improved...they're actually serving us INSTANT coffee! We're in Guatemala, where some of the finest coffee beans in the world are grown...and they're serving freeze-dried instant stuff. We need a proper French coffee press.

And so, we headed to the market. It was a great experience, and I have a feeling that we'll be returning many times.

We capped the day off at La Casa Dulces Tipicos (The House of Typical Sweets), which is about a half block from where we live. The stuff is awesome! Miguel had a fig stuffed with sugar, deep-fried, and then sprinkled with more sugar. We think it had about 100,000 calories. He's upstairs doing pushups to burn off the snack.
